pc and mac in network

If I have a pc with anti-virus and firewall installed do I need to install separate anti-virus/firewall on the mac that is attached to its network? Also, I seem to have a firewall installed on the pc which doesn't allow me to install another e.g. Bullguard. I can't find it. Can it be connected to broadband access and ntl?
Hope someone out there can help,

Re: pc and mac in network

yes, you do need to install a spearate firewall and AV software on the mac...although if you are using OSX then there is a firewall built in.

the firewall on the pc can be accessed (and turned on/off) via the security control centre (programs - accessories - system tools)

you can attach the mac to the network along with the PC but you will need to buy a router...

Activate the firewall built into Mac OS X (via System Preferences) - although if you're on a network, is there not a router in the mix somewhere? Should be a firewall on that, in which case you don't need any software firewall on either machine.

Antivirus for Mac .... well, it's not worth paying for, as there are no viruses currently affecting Mac OS X. However you can pass viruses to the PC that you receive on the Mac perhaps by email, so consider a free antivirus program like ClamXav: http://www.clamxav.com/
