two modems two connections

hi everyone... hope you all can help me

i currently have 2 x 2meg lines coming into the house

one downstairs in the front room and one upstars in the bedroom as they cocked up the installation, i should have just had one downstairs, but the nice man at NTL told me that he would leave them both connected to broadband (both 2 meg) so i could use them both, they both work as i now have my pc upstairs in the bedroom and the xbox in the front room (and been using both connection for about 12 months now), but the problem is when ever i want to use teh xbox i have to take teh modem down stairs and when i want to use teh pc i have to take it upstairs.....

i have got hold of an additional modem (at no cost so its okay if it dont work) to try to solve the problem by having a modem at each connection.

how do i get the new moden to be a 'clone' of the one supplied bu NTL?

i dont have the original installation cd rom, but i am quite competant with pc's....

did an ipconfig/all to get the ip addres and teh other relevant info but no joy..

i presume this is a unique MAC addy on the modem thats stopping me. but is there a way around it?

hmm, this sound's rather fishy. You have two modems connected - do you have two bills?

The new modem you have aquired will not work legally. Indeed attempting to use it on the ntl network could well be considered theft of services. Cable Forum does not support such activity so no further information on this will be given.

Regarding the exisiting modems, if you relocate kit from one to the other, assuming the modem is correctly configured, you must simply power the modem off, unplug one piece of kit's ethernet connections, plug in the other kit, power on the modem and it should autodetect.

ye the connecting from one point to another works, i was just wondering if i could use this second modem to connect instead of having to move teh modem from one room to another everytime

..

i bet if i bought a router and configed that fso it was connected to up stairs teh moden would work downstairs

you cannot connect a second modem to the network without paying for 2 connections (in which case ntl would supply the required modem)

you could use a router to allow both devices to share the 1 connection.
