blueyonder cable wireless
 

I think this is a dhcp problem somewhere, but i dont know too much about that if you know what i mean.

We have just recently got blueyonder, with a motorola surfboard cable modem.

This is connected by ethernet into one of 4 ports on the back of our linksys befw11s4

I am connected wirelessly to the router, strong signal, and as you can see the laptop is assigned the same ip as the modem and im connected to the net. The problem however, is when i connect a second pc, which when it finds the same network and has good strength, is assigned a standard 192.168.2.1 esq kind of ip address, which in turn wont find the internet

Any suggestions where i am going wrong with this one?

The second PC is supposed to get an internal network IP, have you checked that your second PC is set to not use a proxy etc within the Internet Explorer tools, internet options, connections, LAN settings.
Also, can your first PC see the second PC and vice versa? Your laptop should be getting a similar IP to the PC that is not working, the sufboard should be plugged into the LAN port on the router, the router should be showing a certain IP address given to it from the TW/ BY servers and the PCs should be picking up the information/ IP addresses needed to work correctly from the router.

The 192.xxx IP is correct, all the machines connected via the router should have IPs in this range, as this is the IP range for the local network that is created by your router.

Can you post back and say what port you have connected the modem to on the router? Is it labelled with something?

this machine is connected via the router wirelessly and reads
80.193.172.168

the second pc is connected via the router and reads
192.168.2.1

the modem is connected via no 4

Ill bet the Modem is plugged into a Port on the switch, in fact id be willing to put down a wager.

haha posted before me, the Modem needs to be connected to the "WAN" port

when its plugged into wan the laptop cant find the dns in the blueyonder setup

Rich, can you check and confirm what is plugged into where on the router and what steps you took to get the router setup to work wirelessly?

router into ethernet 4 or whatever u want to call it
ran blueyonder disk on laptop wham bam thank you mam were connected

plug modem into wan on router and no such look on either machine

Have you powered the modem down, power the PCs and router down, plug the modem into the WAN port, plug a PC into LAN port 1, power up the modem, wait for lights to lock/ settle, power up the router, wait for lights to lock/ settle, power up the PC and access the router config page?
Rich, you HAVE to have the modem plugged into the WAN port for it to share the connection, if not then you will only get the situation you are in now.

powering down everything seem to work
i had tried that before, but i must have left something plugged in the wrong place

LOL glad it worked, might have had a cable in the wrong place or didn't wait long enought in between each piece of equipment when you powered them up.
