Wireless router problem solved by good old Cat5 Cable.

So, since i got an Etec XG-2180 wireless router to go with my NTL 1meg connection back in October, I have had horrendous problems with maintaining a wireless connction. I have tried everything can think of.
  • Changing router channel
  • changing router location
  • enabling and disabling security
  • Disabling Wireless Zero Configuratiion
So, i run 1 laptop with an intel Wlan 802.11b/g, another laptop with a BT Voyager 1060 PCMIA wireless laptop adaptor, and a pc with a BT Voyager 1040 PCI wireless card.(all run windows xp home).

Basically, the wireless router performs great for anything from 10minutes to 2 dayss, then drops the connection to all three computers simaltaneously. At this stage, the wireless router cannot be pinged, and the oly way to get online is to 'repair' the connection, or to reset the router.

i am including the ntl250 cable modem logs, as the poblem seems to be between the modem and the router. The 62232:Yikes: errors correlate with the router losing connection to the computers. Anybody got any ideas? i have fixed this problem by wiring the house with CAT 5 but would like the freedom of wireless.

it looks that your wireless router is ok, and that the problem is the wireless side.

Have you looked around the area of you house for anything that might be interfiling with you reception. As my boss had a problem with his TV when his next door nebaur turn on is CB.

don't think it's an interference problem as it happens at all times of the day-have checked with neighbour's and they don't have wireless internet , or phone. i have also tried evry channel and it just does the same thing. am wondering if it's some kind of breakdown between the router and the modem beacuse of the sync timing errors.

Wireless has caused a lot of problems fro members, the reason could be caused by a number of factors.

Cordless telephones (use the same frequency as wireless)
microwave ovens
dimmer switches
thickness of walls

I would try a position the Wi-Fi router as close to the centre of the house and away from other electrical goods (I had this problem but disapeared after I changed the channel).

Bluetooth is also a interference with wireless.
