Encryption stops access to net?

I have a Belkin 7230 and after installing 64 bit encryption I found that I could not access the net. I had to take the encryption back off again.

I have spoke n to both Belkin and Telewest support and neither could shed any light on why this happens.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

:welcome: to CableForum.

First, I would recommend that you don't use WEP encryption if you can avoid it. Use WPA.

Second, for encryptioned connections to work properly, you need a stronger signal than for non-encrypted connections. What Signal strength to does Windows show?

Third, you need to ensure that both the router and Windows are set to use the same encryption, and have the same password.

Fourth, make sure you have the latest firmware for your router, and the latest drivers for your network card, as having old versions of either can reduce your chances of connecting. For example, my PSP would not connect to my Linksys router at all, until I had changed the firmware on the router, even though both the new and old versions were supposed to be compatible.

Re: Encryption stops access to net?

Hi there, thanks for the advice,

I will take on board the info on using WEP.

Thanks.... I don't know the difference but I will ask Belkin to help me.

I found out the problem, or at least the company that I purchased from did.
I emailed them this morning and got a reply back (on a Sunday), I was shocked I tell you and left me a mobile number. He talked me through it and hey presto i'm up and running.

There is no need for anyone else to mail me with an answer now but thanks all.

I know this is a forum for Cable but is it possible to extend my gratitude to such a quick response from whom I purchased?

Teleworst, it's always a good idea - and good manners! :-) - when you raise a problem here, and then get it sorted elsewhere, to post what the solution was. That's the idea of this forum: it's not one fixed group of people advising anyone who comes along; it's anyone who can help answering when someone has a problem. Very often the people who come here for help wind up being the helpful ones themselves after a while.

So if you post your solution it's there for others to access if they need it.
