USB and Ethernet Works With NTL

Ok my friend got a really good laptop for christmas. He doesn't know that much about computers! But, I went to his house and he connected the USB to his main computer then used the Ethernet cable to the Laptop and it worked! No ethernet card or anything! He even showed me he can be on MSN at the same time with one on the other computer and the laptop! Will it work with me?

There has to be an ethernet card in both machines, otherwise there's nothing for him to plug the ethernet cable into. It won't fit into any of the other holes you will find round the back of a PC or laptop. It may be that the ethernet is built into the motherboard of the PC, in which case you could technically say there is no 'ethernet card', but that's just semantics.

If you want to know will it work for you, then technically yes, if you connect a PC to the modem with USB, and you have ethernet ports on both PCs you want to use, then you can enable connection sharing on the PC connected to the modem, and then wire it to the second PC with ethernet, and it will work.

However it's better to buy a cheap router to do the job, so you don't have to have the main PC switched on just to use internet on the second one.

If he was on the xbox service then yeh it would work because he would be able to lease 2 ips simultaneously

Nope! He doesn't have an xBox! Just 1MB internet.

Well the only way it would be working is if the modem has a config file that allows two connections at the same time. So the modem probably has the xbox service level config file.

No Ntl upload it to the modem, but you have to pay for the package ;)

No. And if there was, it would be illegal and so would not be discussed here.

Yes. You can buy a router, the same as most of us.
