I can't see it working. The microsoft chip won't be compatible with anyone elses and will have a nasty habit of crawling round the circuit board attempting to eat all the other chips.

M$ will never win on the security front, they'll find a "chip" to break it sooner or later

Re: Microsoft to Produce thier own custom chips for xbox 2
I thought M$ was getting out of all hardware production and manufacturing...

Re: Microsoft to Produce thier own custom chips for xbox 2
It doesnt say they are manufacturing them. It says its using chips custom made for them from IBM and ATi, as opposed to the current box which uses an Intel CPU, and a variant of an nVidia PC card. Since IBM make risc chips, notably for the Apple Mac G5, then you can assume that the Xbox 2 will have a power risc CPU, and a graphics card specifically designed for console gaming.

Just reading from the article. Sounds like production to me whether design/development/production. |
Re: Microsoft to Produce thier own custom chips for xbox 2
I think it is possibly so that they can copyright it and own the intelectual property of the xbox2 chip themselves. IMO

Re: Microsoft to Produce thier own custom chips for xbox 2
"and will instead use customised chips from IBM, ATI amd Silicon Integrated Systmes"
