Re: Ethernet Card Installation

Should'nt need to as your card should pick up an address from the cable modem.

Although i'm not 100% sure.

On an STB you have to register your MAC address so in that particular case it would need you to go though the "setup" procedure.

have a look at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/ for tips on SACM

XP may not pick up the drivers for the ethernet card automatically.

Once you have it installed you should be able to power down the pc and modem connect the ethernet cable, then turn on the modem and let the lights settle down and then powerup the pc. It should auto pick up the ip and all will be good.

Re: Ethernet Card Installation

Fit the new card into the PC. When the PC is booted up, by the time your windows desktop appears you should get a message of new hardware detected and it will want to lad drivers. Put the driver CD you get twith the card into your CD ROM and make sure the driver finding message is allowed to search the CD. Once the card is detected and drivers loaded, tun off your PC and the modem / STB.

Now unplug all the USB connnections, plug in the ethernet connections. Power up the modem / STB (let it settle), boot up the PC. If a modem the PC should now be ready to use the internet connection. If a STB you need to go through the registration process.

More often than not it's easier to get new drivers (if needed at all) from the manufacturers site. Either way they usually install without too many problems.
