ebayISAPI.dll - ntl Bromley problem??
Hi,
I've been unable to view some pages on Ebay. My browser wants to download ebayISAPI.dll all the time. I use Linux so at first I thought it was a dodgy browser. But after getting the same thing in Firefox, Konquerer and Opera I figured it was an ebay problem. Then I came accross this http://answercenter.ebay.com/thread....read=810118250 Which suggest it's a Bromley Cache problem Has anyone contacted NTL about this? Any results? I also need to bid on somethin in 6 hours so any help appreciated. Can I switch cache ? If so how? I'm looking for the NTL support number right now - It doesnt exactly leap out at me from thier web page! Cheers, Lordy ---------- Post added at 16:27 ---------- Previous post was at 16:07 ---------- Just called them - Yes it is an ntl Bromley problem - they will fix in 72 hours!! In the meantime they said I can change my cache using Start-Run-inetwiz ... and set Proxy manually to 80.1.224.4:8080 Which is all nice and dandy except I'm connected via a Router and a Linux box. (I'm starting to miss Eclipse already. I knew it was a bad sign when I had to authenticatemy connection using Windows) Anyway, Anyone know any OS agnostic way to change my Proxy as above? In the meantime I'll try puttting it in my Browser settings but I suspect it may just piggyback with the transparent cache... UPDATE: Yes it works. I set 80.1.224.4:8080 as a proxy in my browser. (Why didn't they just say so) Now I can bid hopefully! I'm planning a snipe so it had better work :) Lordy |

contact numbers for NTL in this link
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/forum/article.php?a=9 list of proxy servers in this one http://www.cableforum.co.uk/forum/article.php?a=10 - don't know how you change over in Linux browser, though - presumably you would still specify 8080 as the port. |
Re: ebayISAPI.dll - ntl Bromley problem??
I note this has been moved to Email, Web-Proxy and Webspace discussion
which makes sense - based on the forum titles - but your average Joe (and indeed myself) with the problem will not have a clue that I cant get to ebay pages because its the NTL proxy. I think (logically - and esp from a user perspective) ntl proxy issues are really more related to the ntl internet service than they are to email and/or webspace problems. Lordy |
Re: ebayISAPI.dll - ntl Bromley problem??
Well, I've just installed Firefox 1.5 in MEPIS (new venture) and you set a proxy almost exactly as you do in the Windows version. The only difference is the location of Options/Preferences.
In the Linux version, it's Edit -> Preferences (read Tools -> Options in Windows) -> General -> Connection Settings. Choose a proxy from the Cable Forum list, select Manual Proxy Configuration, type (or paste) your chosen proxy into HTTP Proxy Configuration only, set the port to 8080 and click OK. Don't set a proxy for anything other than HTTP. There's also an extension for Firefox that allows you to change your proxy on the fly - SwitchProxy. You can get it from the developer's page, but the latest version is now on the Firefox extensions page. You can enter the details for several proxies into this, and change them with a few clicks on a toolbar - very convenient if you're having proxy headaches. |
