Can't make an FTP Connection
 

Can anyone help me?
I want to use my free web space with NTL, i've tried terrapin and I have tried pasting ftp://myname:mypassword@upload.ntlworld.com
I've turned off my firewall and still no joy. I don't believe i have changed my password.
Apreciate any help, Cheers :confused:

When you try to connect via your FTP client, what does it say in the window? Does it show an error?

Are you using the name on the account? Normally the billing name. A lot of people make the error of using the name they give for their email address but if that differs from the original account name it won't work.

Terrapin says "server dropped your connection. it is possible you don't have the authority to connect to this server. If connecting via internet, check that you are using the correct dialup account" Cheers

You are connecting via your NTL account aren't you? You can't access the webspace via another connection.

Set your connection type to Passive. Active connections require an incoming port mapping through firewalls / routers on port 22.

Can you confirm all settings/ information you are using (apart from account name and password)?
Also which firewall is it you turned off and how did you turn it off?
There is information here that you can use for comparrison if needed.

Hi guys thanks for your help with this, it turns out that i changed my password the day i got connected 4 1/2 years ago. I added the old password and its working fine.:dunce::nutter:

:notopic: If i was to buy a web address would that remain in the address bar if it is redirected to my free space? And who owns these addresses in the first place and how can they charge for them?
