Indeed, I would imagine the health gurus will now be gunning for the drinkers as the smokers are suffering persecution unto death and the non smoking lobby has to find a new target otherwise they will all be redundant. After that, who knows what will become the target, sweeties ? smoked fish ? chocolate ? Perhaps we will all have to wear those strange filters the japanese wear when they have a cold. Maybe the bulk of society will die in a bird flu pandemic leaving just the heath freaks who can then live the much vaunted "healthy life" How boring.

Re: Big rise in liver cirrhosis cases

I was just going to post this as well. I went for a cholesterol check and unknown to me they also checked my liver function (the b*stards).
So, my alanine aminotransferase is at 66, should be under 35
I have been drinking about 40 units a week now for 3 years--and feeling fine with it--but my liver obviously isn't (the wimp!) :D
Anyhoo...I'm not touching a drop for 36.5 days from every new years eve now ;)
...and I'm going to try to cut down my consumption during the rest of the year as well :disturbd:

The thing is, I feel fine on the amount I've been drinking, very rarely drunk, rarely even slightly tipsy. Liver damage can sneak up on you slowly with no ill effects. Take care! :)
