Pardon?

From the BBC:
Quote:

While veteran rocker Pete Townshend blames his hearing loss on a lifetime spent using headphones, experts say today's iPod Generation is storing up trouble for the future by listening to music at high volumes. Is this a crisis in the making?
These experts really ought to start listening to their mums, then they would have know this YEARS ago!

Having said that, only yesterday on the Tube there was someone sharing his music with everyone - while using ear buds. And I was thinking how his hearing must be suffering and how a few years in the future we'd have deafness as a major problem.

Still, try telling kids they're doing damage to their hearing - they won't take any notice. No more than they will of any sound some years from now...

I think a major difference is that today's players don't have half the kick that the 80s players had. You could really turn those up till your ears were bleeding. But yes, we knew then, and we didn't take notice...

I spent many a night in front of the speakers at the clubs in Belfast and I'm pretty sure that it effected my hearing.

Re: Pardon?

Most Ipods sold in the UK have a capped volume setting that is there to protect our hearing and even that level is quite loud.
Some people decide to unblock the cap and it is even louder, and very bad for your ears.

A lot of DJ's and producers now where custom made ear protectors that let all the frequencies through but at a lower volume.
If you regularly go out clubbing or work in a place of high volume, they are worth considering.
Not only can it lead to deafness, but also titinus (hope I've spelt it correctly) where you have a constant ringing in the ears.

Didn't she use to go out with John Leslie :disturbd:

Hahaha bump.

I walk past John Leslie's house twice a day. Celeb city round here. My other half once saw him helping the old dear next door with her bins. Of course, he could be working a a binman now...

Anyway, I'm part deaf from falling asleep on a loudspeaker at Rockworld in Manchester many years ago. Means I use my left hand for mobile phones as my right ear isn't good enough. Try some hard rock at a decibel level you can feel for real man's ear pain. Don't tell me about ear buds*

* Because I won't be able to hear you

Ahhh phew. A similar thing happened to me too. I fell asleep in a nightclub once. Because it was so loud, I was convinced I was drugged, rather than tired. At least I can relax a bit now.

Excuse? Since when do you need an excuse for not listening to the missus? I mean, it's not like she's going to take notice is it? ;)

Re: Pardon?

i think this is what blokes hear when she's off on one :blah: but they can just utter those immortal words "yes dear" which saves having to respond to "are you listening to me" or "don't you agree" :D :D

I read about this in the paper a couple of days ago, this morning a boy in my sons class (6yo) walks in with a new mp3 player! :disturbd:

Re: Pardon?

As somone who suffers with tinitus and 40% hearing loss in both ears (none of which was caused by loud noise), the scariest thing I come across are cars with all the boom boxes in which play music loud enough to wake the whole street. Deafness in waiting.

Silliest part is I wear earplugs to concerts because the noise is too loud.:disturbd:
