Will some 1 please recommend what gear i should use?
A router and somit to recieve on the other pc,It will have to reach from downstairs to my loft which id say is bowt 12meters. My budget is £70.

Get over to www.ebuyer.com, have a wr54 linksys router. If you fancy opening up your pc a pci 54g card will do or a 54g usb key if you dont want to get into it.

I would suggest you take a look at the gear recommended in this thread:

All of those models there are recommended by users on this forum.
You will be needing one wireless router to connect to your cable modem and then a PCI or USB wireless adapter to put into your PC.

Linksys stuff generally seems to find favour at the moment, but your budget may dicate otherwise.

At this stage when buying make sure you go for wireless g or faster standards, not b which will soon start to be a little slower than the faster broadband connections starting to be available.

Also If a was to get a 54mbps router and a 108mbps pci card would they work?Does it matter about speed?.How can i tell what is compatible with what?

Everything should work together, buying matched kit (netgear 108mbs router and netgear 108mbs card) will allow you to take advantage of advanced features. My linksys router can work with other linksys routers to extend coverage but its happy working with centrinos and belkin cards for just normal access.

Yep those should be OK.

When buying stuff the key are the 802.11b & 11g standards. Realistically you want all your kit to be the same level 11g being the faster, and thus better more future proofed standard. You can have both on the same network, but if your router is only 11b, the 11g standard card will never work to it's higher speeed potential. On the other hand if you had an 11g speed router, it will try to work at teh higher speed 11g services, but throttle back whenever it encounters 11b speeds.
