Wireless Linksys problem

My brother in-laws dad, has bought himself a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Lappy (built in wirless Atheros AR5005G), he aslo bought a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router.

I connect the 250 CM to the WAN port on the router and another cat5 to port one (to do the inital setups)

they have the same SSID, the lappy can see the router but not connect, this must be a security issue, I cannot find the same protocols on both, the linksys has (recalling mem,) WPA personal, the lappy has WPA PK?

any advise would be much appreciated (I'm not near the lappy now)

you may have to clone the mac address on to the router

Re: Wireless Linksys problem

It's not an encryption issue, it's likely to be a NAT / ICS problem between the router and modem - probably arising from it not being set up correctly.

It was bought from PCW- if he took out PC Performance on the laptop he can get national rate software advice (including wireless) over the phone... if not he can still get support but that's £1.50/min from BT line.

Re: Wireless Linksys problem

also if its a v5 (new1) upgrade the fireware on it the current fireware on the router should be 1.00.2. i was haveing trouble getting on ebay and read on the info that 1.00.4 and since then ebay has been workingg

The router is fine (I have one!) but the 'S' bit is wasted as the 'Speedbooster' function only works with Broadcom based clients. You really do need to go into the router with a wired connection and try "G only" without MAC filtering and without security (WEP is most basic) then add these functions one at a time

There is a web configurator simulator here:-

http://www.linksysdata.com/ui/WRT54G...6/Wireless.htm

This is the version of firmware I use (US restricted channel version) as it is ahead of the European one, but his hardware may be V4 which is slightly different and will be a version number such as 1.05.2.

Hi I solved it,

I hadn't turned on the wifi on in the laptop, only took 4 hours to find it out.
