USB 2.0 File Transfer Cable
I'm fairly new to networking, so I'll explain this as best as I can.
Computer 1 has a cable modem connection (Roadrunner). Computer 2 has no internet at all. I bought a USB 2.0 File Transfer Cable, which supposedly allows you to set up Computer 2 to Computer 1's cable connection. I got all the drivers installed, the USB cable is plugged into both computers as we speak. Under Control Panel\Network Connections, theres an icon that says "Local Area Connection 3. Connection, shared. USB Virtual Network Adapter #2". Under TCP/IP Config (when you right click the connection and hit properties), I have Computer 2 set up to automatically obtain the IP address and all that from Computer 1. My problem is, Computer 2 is barely receiving any packets. Its sent 340 and received 47 in the past 40 minutes. I believe my problem is that I need to manually define the IP address, but I don't know how to do that. I tried Ipconfig /renew Ipconfig /release, but it stalls for a couple minutes than says something like "Unable to contact DHCP server. Connection timed out." Help is much appreciated. |
Re: USB 2.0 File Transfer Cable
Are any firewalls installed on either computer? What operating system is running on both computers and have you run the internet connection sharing wizard at all?
