Surfboard Modem

I have a surfboard modem SB4100 I would love to upgrade to the new 10meg connection...
firstly NTL say it will not handle the 10 meg conection

Secondly tNTL say they require a £50 payment off me to upgrade the modem and would require mine in return..

question is why after all these years of being a customer do they kick you in the back and ask for more money when there equipment is at fault not mine

why if they want us to upgrade do we have to pay extra?????

Re: Surfboard Modem

The modem will handle 5 or 6 meg and it will give you 512 kbs upload so if you want to upgrade its still worth your while your still looking at 1 meg every 2 seconds ;)

Re: Surfboard Modem

I bought my SB 4100 modem when it was Diamond Cable, now I pay £24.99 for the 2meg service and so obviously don't have an NTL supplied/rented modem, so will NTL supply me with a compatible modem if I upgrade to 10mb or can it be confirmed the SB4100 WILL work with the 10mb service?

Re: Surfboard Modem

I have just talked to NTL again they said that if you wish to upgrade to the 10meg service if you wait till 1st jan they will send all surfboard owners a new modem free of charge and upgrade to the 10meg...untill then it is only existing 3 meg users that are being upgraded as a trail ...

I have a SB4100 and 10Mbps works just fine, whoever at ntl is saying that the surfboard does not work does not have all the facts at hand.

Well that's encouraging for existing SB 4100 owners, even if it can hit 10mb we can still have a new modem after 1st Jan if we upgrade.

It does, the ethernet port is 100meg. So that takes care of the next few upgrades as well :).

Why would you want a new modem? I have had my SB4100 for over three years now. They don't wear out you know

I still think the Surfboard is the most stable modem of all the one's Ntl have used. It is also the most user configurable with regards changing the upstream channel (which should never really be necessary but a nice feature non the less!) I am sticking with mine as long as possible! :)

Re: Surfboard Modem

I know the 4100 is reliable, that's why I'm keeping mine, it's just reassuring to know if it does go 'pop' we can get a new modem without it costing anything.
