BT Voyager 1500 Nightmare
 

Hi People,
I'm trying to set up a BT Voyager 1500 wireless router with my NTL broadband modem - Terayon TJ210.
There is no network card in my pc so i put a BT 1040 wireless card inside. This seems to be installed fine.
According to the instructions for the router there should be no cables connecting the cable modem to the router yet, which there isn't.
To get to the BT Options screen i am instructed to start my usual internet browser and browse to 192.168.1.250 but this page will not open up so i am completely stuck.
Somebody please help me...how do i get to this BT Options page?

First thing to do is make sure you aren't specifying a proxy in the Internet Explorer options, connection, lan settings tab. At the moment you aren't getting any data from the router.
Have you tried turning the power off to everything (shut down the PC first)
Power up the SACM
wait for lights to settle
power up router
wait for lights to settle
power up PC
open IE and try to access the IP address stated

Is a BT Voyager ADSL or CM compatible?

Checked and it's cable compatible according to BT.
Was the first thing I wondered about too ;)

I'm not specifying a proxy, and i tried all of what you said Paul, but still no luck in reaching that IP address.
I also tried turning off zonealarm, but still no joy.

How did you turn it off? The only real way to make sure it isn't causing trouble is to stop it running at windows start up (it's in the options for Zone Alarm).
Can you connect via ethernet just while you are setting the router up??

I disabled zonealarm at startup but still nothing.
At the moment i can't use ethernet because the network card that was in the pc doesn't seem to accept the RJ45 connectors i have. A bit too old maybe?
I was intending to get a new network card for this pc (the BT 1040 was intended for another desktop in the house)...would it benefit me to do so for the setup process?

Not really as that card is designed to work with that router out of the box. The network card in the PC won't take standard ethernet cable?? Strange. Setting up via a cable and then switching to wireless would be easier :(

Tell me about it, i couldn't believe that the ethernet cable wouldn't fit the network card!!
In that case i'll get a new network card tomorrow and try it all over again.

Is it a network card that you have been using up till now?

A Network card for as long as I can remmber either has a RJ45 Socket (pretty Standard), BNC or one that looks like a Many port plug as the piccy:

Now it just so happens a RJ11 Socket might to some look like a Network Socket:

These are normally on the Laptop / PC for 56K Modems, ADSL etc..

I have a feeling you are trying to plug in a Network Lead into a RJ11 or indeed the Other way around !!
