Loss of internet on secondary pc
Hiya all,
I have my pc ( specs below) amd 64 3000 1gb ddr xp home sp2 I run the 2mb NTL BB into mine via usb ( i know i know ) and then using my single ethernet port using crossover ethernet into my gf's pc where she then gets the internet. A wireless router is in the planning but not till half way 06, now last night she was fine on net as myself. This was until this morning now she can get to www.google.com and even to the odd site using Google as a portal, but once there or if she tries typing a url in it just hangs and refuses to move to another site. No error to page cannot be displayed just very very painfully slow progress on the status bar. Her pc is a amd athlon xp 1500 384mb ram xp pro sp2. I am totally baffled by this I have checked firewall permissions and all is good we both use sygate personal, and have run spyware checks and av checks using AVG free and all is clear. The only recent thing was me removing call of duty from this system and the vista inspirat pack this morning, and her installing a scanner last night which runs via usb. |

Are one or both of the firewalls blocking DNS requests? (port 53)

Re: Loss of internet on secondary pc
Sorry I couldn't say for that particular one.
It might be worth checking her DNS server settings... I can't remember if ICS (internet connection sharing) issues DHCP addresses to clients or whether it just honours all requests on it's IP range as a default gateway. If it is DHCP, then it should have the same DNS servers listed as your main PC anyway. If it's got manually assigned IP settings then it's worth checking to see if the DNS servers are correct. |
Re: Loss of internet on secondary pc
Okay I will ask her to check that one out on the ICS wizard, going to re-run it on hers and see if it makes any changes.

Well seems I was wrong they are acting up again and she is getting to the first page say yahoo.com and then cannot move anymore, does anyone have any idea it's obvious that the firewall is giving her the net but something is major wrong here and I am getting ear-ache from her, I know nothing about configuring firewalls but nowts changed for weeks on the firewalls so I doubt it is those. I just do not get this. ---------- Post added at 15:41 ---------- Previous post was at 15:39 ---------- Quote:

Re: Loss of internet on secondary pc
Right so far I have
( reformed all settings to default on both computers) ( removed firefox from my pc and call of duty and xfire from her pc which was isntalled in last 24hours ) (removed the usb scanner from her pc which was installed in last 24hours) Shut down both pc's and then removed power for 2minutes, gave power back to cable modem ( ambit ) and then ready let flashed like mad until I after 2minutes booted only my pc backup, internet works fine on my pc, then I booted hers up, it finds google and signs into yahoo messenger, but will not navigate or sign into msn messenger. This is really annoying me guys/girls and please can I have some advice if it invovles firewalls please make it in simple english with instructions as I know nothing of how to configure them. |
