Setting up a WGR614 router
 

Hello

I hope someone can help, I'm trying to set up this router, I've got as far as the dynamic ip address page of in the setup wizard, its asking me for an account name & a domain name, where do I find them?

as far as I know you can leave these fields blank, you can put your name in the 'account' field, if you want, but the domain name can be left blank.

you should have

'require login' = no
a/c name & domain name - see above
IP address = get dynamically
DNS address = get automatically
MAC address = use default

Once that is set up a DHCP release/renew should get you an IP assigned.

I would recommend getting this working using only one pc directly connected to the router, before worrying about the wireless stuff ( which I know nowt about anyway ;) ).

I'm on NTL, I've tried leaving it blank but nothing happens.

Homalone, It isnt showing me anything other than account name and domain name.

hmm, the info I had was from an online manual describing the setup using the wizard, but there are several versions of this model number, so I may have looked at the wrong one.

You could try putting in your NTL username in the 'account' field & ntlworld.com in the 'domain' one, although I can't see why you would need to???

Homealone I've just tried that it didn't work but a small network icon popped up in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen (a network icon) with a window saying " a network cable is unplugged"

I take it you have a working connection without the router? It sounds like the Router currently isn't registering against your account. Don't put a username or domain name into the settings section. Try cloning your current MAC address into the router.
Also are you currently trying to set up the router wirelessly or are you connecting via a cable?

Its connected via cable.

Through the router but is it via a cable or wirelessly?
You can get your current MAC by opening a CMD box or typing cmd into the run line in your start menu and then type
ipconfig /all
at the prompt. Your current working MAC address as well as your current IP etc will be listed. Somewhere in your router setup pages you will have a section where you can set up a MAC address for the router to use. Clone the working one in and NTL will believe that the router is effectively the connection that you are currently using and when your power cycle all your equipement it will talk to your router as normal.
Now I take it you have powered everything off,
connect all items together via ethernet if possible
reboot SACM or STB
wait for lights to lock/ settle
power up router
wait for lights to lock/ settle
power up PC.

Should it say Mac address in the cmd box or will it call it something else?
It has the IP address as the router!

Take the router out of the connection, use the power cycle that I stated above and then do the IPconfig /all. This will give you the working MAC address.
Are you connecting via the router now? If so what do you need help setting up???

I've taken the router out of the loop now i'm back to square one!
I've got all the details from ipconfig and I'm ready to try again!

Cool, hopefully now you have your full working IP address and MAC address you can make things easy on yourself by cloning them into the router so that NTL thinks it's talking to your PC ;)
By the way, which version of the router is it?

as there are a few. Also try to bypass the setup wizard, I know the linksys one gives me grief if I let it run. You may find there is a url you can type in (look in the manual) that will take you straight into your settings screen.

Its v2.
The last time i tried to install it I got an NTL page asking for my PID and password should I igmore this?
