NTL & Linksys WRT54G Problems

Hi there,
I have just got a new Linksys WRT54G wireless broadband router.

The wireless side of things work fine however I cannot access the internet.

I'm sure it is setup properly with the NTL box but in the status screen the IP address it tells me that it has is 10.44.32.124 (or similar). I understand that this is the internal IP of the NTL box. Everything else works a treat as I said. I have set it up for DHCP on the WAN side which I assume NTL uses but cannot get net access. Can anyone help me with any setting or any suggestions. I have upgraded the firmware to the latest and reboot the router and also the NTL box.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

a cable modem just needs to be rebooted - do you have this or a set-top-box which needs to be reregistered unless you clone your pc mac-address?

Hi there, it is a set top box. I have already manually entered in the DNS addresses.

How do I re-register it? Also, how do I spoof the MAC address. If you could briefly point me in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks,

Ben

Open Router page via Explorer (192.168.1.1)
Setup menu
select "Mac Address Clone"
click button "Clone you PC's MAC"
Click "Save Settings"

That should do it.

Set top box will think your registered PC is now connected (may need a reboot first)

I'm sure its on this site somewhere, but stb reregistration procedure is referenced here

http://www.chetnet.co.uk/articles/in...x_v2&id=15&c=2

and general router setup procedure here:-

http://www.chetnet.co.uk/articles/in...x_v2&id=73&c=8

FWIW you shouldn't have to manually enter the DNS settings - unless you are manually defining the IP addresses on your LAN PCs (which is needed to setup port forwarding to allow internet games etc through the router)

Cheers boys, plan A (registering the router through start.ntl) failed dismally as I couldn't browse to this page.

Plan B however (spoofing the MAC address) worked a treat. Thanks again guys. I'm new to this country so therefore not too familiar with the infrastructure here. Aussie I know back to front though.

My shout at the pub.

Glad it's sorted :)

Just FYI you couldn't reach the start.ntl page because you had specified DNS servers.... the ones mentioned ^^ (nb should be 194.168.4.100 and 194.168.8.100) are for customers who are fully registred, not provisioning through a set top box.
