Help with Cable modem and STB
Hi
Could anyone tell me if its possible to use both a SACM and STB . I already have a working SACM > wireless solution @ home, and NTL have just installed a SAMSUNG STB in my bedroom only 2ft from my PC. Therefore I would like to keep the wireless solution for my laptop and use the STB for PC and XBOX. Can this be done and if so how ? Cheers  |
Re: Help with Cable modem and STB
No i don't think it's possible because you only use 1 MAC address with each account. Your best bet is to keep the SACM for your internet and just use the STB for TV,as the STB isn't capable of working at 10mbits.

It can be done, but you will have to open another account, so will be paying two lots of broadband charges each month. TBH, it would be cheaper to use wireless for the lot. |
Re: Help with Cable modem and STB
Okay, would a router that can clone the SCAM MAC address be a solution, I have no problems with my wireless but its downstairs and the STB/PC is upstairs. I'm sure a read somewhere that its possible, but cannot remember where I read it.

No need to clone the MAC for that. :) |
Re: Help with Cable modem and STB
My Router is Downstairs alongside the Cablemodem and teh STB is upstairs next to the PC.

Re: Help with Cable modem and STB
You are better off using the Cable Modem for all your internet use. Cable modems can do broadband faster than the STB (assuming you do have the more recent modem versions) of up to 10Meg services, whereas the Samsung STBs can only do up to 5 meg with the Pace STB less than that.
You could ask ntl to transfer the broadband to the STB, instead of the modem, so you wired to a router (with wireless) next to the STB which then allowed wire to the PCs upstairs and wireless for the lappy. But wha't the point if the broadband speed might be less  Or are you saying the wireless connection from downstairs isn't good enough? |
