Dropped wireless network

Hi all, I have 3 pc's on a router ( wireless), all was fine 'till 3 days ago, when my pc link went off, and the icon has the red cross through it, saying " connection disconnected" Double clicking and refreshing makes no difference, it doesnt see a network; the other 2 pcs are fine. Tried winsockxpfix, tried uninstalling the railink drivers no joy. Now resorting to staring at the screen but that doesnt help!! Ideas? Richie2

Which router make & Model please? Is the wireless on the affected PC an integrated adaptor, USB or what? What OS on the affected PC?

How did the PC go off - did it crash unexpectedly? Possible that something in the hardware broke?

I have heard and reported it hear that some DECT cordless phones interfere with wireless connections.

Try a different wirelesss channel.

Hi
First , thanks for the replies.
Okay, the router is an Edimax , don't know what type,I run windows xp, and all that happened was one day, I got " disconnected", and tried to refresh using the windows utility, only to find no network; next door is my daughters room and everything is fine, so I dont think its the cordless phone.
Its not a usb so I assume an integrated adaptor, sadly I am a bit of a novice to networks.

All else on the pc is fine, so no crash, just a lost connection.
Tried system restore, no joy.

Cheers

Have you got the PC to obtain IP and DNS Server Addresses Automatically?

Re: Dropped wireless network

Ok give me 2 mins cos i posted how to do it in another thread

EDIT: Ok go into Network connections and right click on your connection and click Properties. Under "This connection uses the following items" scroll down and highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and then click properties. once you have done this select "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" and "Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically". Press Ok twice and that should sort you. :)

Hi and thanks for that.
No, those settings were already in operation, I tried again anyway, and just get told "searching for wireless networks" then " wireless network not found"
I disabled the xp firewall to try that, same thing happens so it isnt that.
I think my next step is to place the pc next to my daughters in her adjacent room, since hers works fine, and try again in case the signal is not strong enough, will let you know how this goes when I find time to do it.

Cheers

Re: Dropped wireless network

Changing wireless channels can sometimes help - your routers wireless config page should allow that.

One of my PC's had a problem with the wireless connection. In the end it was resolved by repairing (reinstalling) XP. As long as you just repair the install, you don't lose any data.
