How can I move from a 120 modem to a 250?
 

Hey guys,

I want to ask NTL to move my modem from 120 to 250, how can I go about this? Im sure I am getting problems due to the old 120 modem not being able to handle the 10mbit speeds, though the TS @ NTL reckon its my router, suprise suprise....

How would i go about getting a 250 modem, I suspect I'd have to get an engineer out which would cost me £25?

Take the router out of the setup for a while. If it is still rebooting under load they should be able to see this and arrange a swap.

Unfortunately dezzo that will mean I will be without the internet for a while, and will only be able to use it in my sister's room....not good when I am in an online gaming clan and relied upon most days of the week :(

If you can do it for a few hours or so (and possibly hammer the hell out the connection so it reboots as much as possible) then when you call up Tech Support they will check the logs for the connection and see the repeated reboots and book a replacement.

After this you should be able to put things back to normal and wait for the engineer.

I guess it all depends on how badly you want your internet fixed then. NTL do not currently believe your modem is the problem, and they won't swap a healthy modem (why should they - it costs money). Your only option is to remove everything else from the system that they might try to blame and see if it is still a problem.

Have you looked up your router and made sure that it isn't causing the problem?

ntl are not going to replace the modem unless it's proven to be faulty - the 120's with the new firmware are perfectly capable of doing the full 10mb, as numerous posts on the forum will testify.
