Ntl/belkin Router Problem..help!
Hi i am having difficulty with setting up a blekin router with NTL, constantly no WAN light flickering when connected to NTL Cable modem. I have tested the setup with a Telewest BB connection and it works fine.
Router is testing fine, as is the cables, seems to be a problem getting the NTL CAble modem to connect to the router, do i have to turn off the modem for a certain period of time? its currently connected via USB and works fine, soon as i use the ethernet port i have no success. Any ideas? Thanks |
Re: Ntl/belkin Router Problem..help!
Is the modem still connected to the PC via the USB? You can't get two connections out of it at once.
Did you power-down the modem for a minute before trying to plug the router in? Looks like you didn't, from your post - try that. What model is your modem? Some are known to have badly-made ethernet ports, but this is currently the least likely option. :welcome: to the forum by the way. |

You need to reboot the modem to cahnge from USB to ethernet.
Turn everything off. Unplug the USB and plug in the ethernet connection. Turn on the cable modem and wait for it to reboot (lights to stop, flashing). Then turn on the router and wait for it to register itself with the cable modem (a few seconds). Now connect to your router from your PC. |

2. Wait 2 minutes. 3. Plug in ethernet between modem and router (and between router and PC) 4. Ensure router is OFF 5. Switch modem ON 6. Wait for lights to settle down 7. Switch on Router 8. Wait for router to settle down# 9. Switch on PC If it still doesn't work, we can start thinking about a dodgy e-net port on the modem ... :) |

Also something else to check is that you have a ethernet lan connection showing in 'view network connections'. If there is not 'disconnected or connected' then you'll need to sort out the drivers for the ethernet card.

Re: Ntl/belkin Router Problem..help!
ok thank you, i will try that in the next couple of days when i've time and let you know how i got on.....
would NTL replace a modem if it had a dodgy ethernet port? i think it might be as there is no light whatsoever. cheers guys ---------- Post added at 16:35 ---------- Previous post was at 16:33 ---------- thanks handyman, the card was fine as the LAN connection was active and had recieved an IP address from the router. |

Another thought - you are attaching the modem to the router's WAN port, and not one of the LAN ports, aren't you? |
Re: Ntl/belkin Router Problem..help!
Yeah i set the same model up with a telewest network and it worked fine, up and running in less than 5mins.
Problem with the NTL modem, i will try your suggestions in the next day or so, hopefully powering down the modem for couple mins will work. Although i've a sneaky feelings its the ethernet port on the modem, no lights whatsoever. cheers |
