Will Ntl change SB3100 & Terajet for 10mbit?
 

We all know that Ntl have made an official statement regarding the Samsung STB only being able to get around 5mbit and are letting their customers change to a SACM for a £50 charge. But is their any news for the customers that are stuck on a Terayon Terajet 210 and Motorola Surfboard 3100 SACM's which arn't capable of the full 10mbit? Personaly i think the £50 charge is unfare but if i still had my SB3100 i guess i'd pay it.

haven't heard anything official, but presumably the terayon and surfboards (and let's not forget the few that still have 3coms) would be changed. As to whether or not there would be charge involved i have no idea...

I would expect them to be changed for free. I would certainly kick up a big fuss if not. Persoanlly I think the £50 charge to swap stb's for a sacm is outrages, and a very bad decision by ntl.

I wonder how many of these old modems are really out in the field as from the pole in this thread http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...ad.php?t=38960 there seems to be alot of terajet's and thats just users on this site. So there could be alot of pee'd off people when they findout they have to pay the £50 charge. I suspect the charge will be dropped in the end.

I have a Terajet most I get is 6mbit...rung NTL and some indian CS person said all modems support 10mbit o.O Then she said ring back on the 23rd if you still have problems...Great

Would you pay £50 for a modem replacement David, if that was the only way to get the speed you expect from a 10mbit connection?

No because I pay £38 for a service thati should receive.

Less than you might think. Low single figures percentage wise. Remember the vast majority of ntl customers aren't early adopters like us and have Ambit modems. 3100s are particularly rare these days.

I have a motarola sb3100 (since the start) and it's giving me the full 10mbit speed, so i'm happy. :)

I'm surprised at this as this modem only has a 10mbit half duplex ethernet port, however the very similar looking modem, the SB4100 has a full duplex thus allowing for max speed without any issues.

I wouldn't expect more than 5-6mbits with the SB3100 and in my experience i couldn't browse at all while downloading a large file at that speed. :)

But if yours works the way you say it does then good for you, until the next speed increase ;)
