Whats the deal with STBs and 10meg
 

Just browsing through the posts, it seems that the only way of getting 10meg is by having a SACM.

Is this correct will the Samsung not make the grade.

Will i need to change to SACM for speed increase or will my stb do up to 5 meg

According to NTL, the Samsung will be configured for up to 5MB - when they decide to get around to it. For 10MB, you will have to shell out £50 for a SACM (...or go through retentions;) ).

So why did NTL buy samsung boxes not capable of meeting future requirements

So this meens stb users lose out, even though they PAY the same as sacm users.
some people cant do dd so it sucks, really sucks :(

I have a pace stb. Does anyone know if eventually NTL will replace my stb with a modem, for free. Not in any particular rush to get 10Mb, but would like to know that I will get it at some point.

Unless NTL come to their senses, it will cost you £50 to get anything more than 1MB if you're on PACE.

mmm... not sure about that....

At the moment if you are on 1meg with a PACE and you chose to upgrade to 2 or now 10 meg, you will be given a free replacement in the form of either a samsung or a stand alone modem.

Thanks for the info. Am I right in thinking that eventually everyone will be on 10mg and the three charging tiers will for different cap limits.

Yes you are. :)

However there will be a few unlimited tiers introduced at different speeds, lower than 10meg.

NTL will replace your stb if it goes faulty free of charge :D intermitant problems, freezing pictures, constant disconnects etc all the features of a 1000 STB :angel:

Understand they replace it with a nice shiny Samsung or a 4000 but thats the STB lottery
