Ethernet Connection Problems

I've been using my broadband connection happily through my ethernet connection for a while now with no problems. I came to use the internet a few days back and i couldn't get a connection. I spoke to CS and they confirmed that my SACM was receiving a signal and everything form NTL to my modem was working correctly. CS suggested I try my old USB connection through the blue converter. This worked fine.

Since then i've tried two ethernet cables neither of which work through the ethernet connection but do work through the USB connection. Now it doesn't take a great genius to work out that it is probably the network card that is at fault, but before I go out and get a new I just wanted to see if anyone had any different ideas?

Thanks for reading

Re: Ethernet Connection Problems

before you buy a new card try the following:

For Win XP

start -> run -> cmd /k ipconfig/all then press enter. What ip address do you get?

for win 98

start - > run -> command (a black boxed windows should open) then type ipconfig/all and press enter - What ip address do you get?

if its a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx or then your netword card is working and the problem could be with the ethernet port on the cable modem.
