Ethernet Problem

I just bought a wireless router so i was looking to switch from a usb to ethernet connection.

I had alot of problems switching over to other to ethernet which ive now found out seems to be the ethernet connector in the modem itself. I have to plug the ethernet cable into the back of the modem and keep hold of the clip in order for the led to come on and for me to get internet access if i let go or knock the modem then the led goes off and so does the internet.

Ive tried two different ethernet cables both with the same issue the problem is now is recently ive been trying to get my modem replaced by ntl due to not getting the full 10 meg speed. The modem i have is ambit 100 will ntl check the logs and use this against me if i call them about the problem?.

Also any recommendations on how i can fix the problem myself?

Thanks
Darren

Re: Ethernet Problem

If it sounds like the socket's gone you should get a replacement anyway, whether or not it takes 10 Mb is a different matter but if you're on 10 Mb then I can't see why not- but it is ntl.

Re: Ethernet Problem

Leave the modem switched off for a few hours then reboot with the ethernet cable connected
Easy

Sellotape the clip to the modem so that it stays in the same place?

:Yikes:

Dobbo shouldn't have to do this as it seems like a hardware fault. Ring ntl and tell them about the problem and ask for replacement SACM.

let us know how you get on.

Not if the Ethernet socket is dodgy, it's not. No amount of waiting will fix that. He needs to call NTL as there seems to be a hardware fault.

on the earlier ambit modems there where manufacturing problems on the ethernet ports. if you get a paperclip or something else thin and pointy you should be able (whilst its unplugged from the ower) be able to hook the pins and lift them up a little to give a better contact. :) job done

If he's got the option of getting a new (hopefully NTL:250) modem, he probably doesn't _want_ to get the job done! ;-)
