running my laptop next to home pc ???

i want to run my laptop next to the home pc , i do not have a wireless connection and would just like a cable going from the modem to the laptop aswell.
the home pc is using the ethernet slot but there is also a un-used usb slot next to it , can i use both at the same time??

if so where can i get drivers for the ntl home 200 modem?

please help

The modem will only give you one ip address so what ever kit is turned on first that is the one you can use on the net .:)

:welcome: to Cable Forum :D

You can only connect one device at a time to the modem, so you can use only the ethernet port or the USB slot. You must power down the modem when changing the wires over, and the not in use computer must be completely unplugged.

Your best option if you want to use both PC and lappy together is to get a router - wired ones are available, and you can get USB adaptors to plug onto the end of an ethernet cable if the lappy doesnt have ethernet.

A wired router costs as little as £28... check out the Linksys range.
Very easy to set up too.
