Wireless router through Telewest Set Top Box
Hi all..
I have read numerous threads but havent really got what I was looking for.. This is my predicament... I have telewest self install wireless broadband through my set top box...which works spot on with the router and wireless card telewest supplied me with. I want to add another PC and laptop to the network, and after a bit of research realised that I would have to purchase a new router as the one telewest supplies cant work with more than one PC. I purchased a Netgear WGT624 router. I have tried installing it by connecting my first laptop to it via an ethernet cable and the router connected to the STB via ethernet (and x-over adaptor). I ran through the install CD supplied with the new router and it kept asking me to quit as there was a problem with my set up and connection. So I tried going into control panel>Network Connections>LAN and when I clicked on it it took me to a router set up page...so it found my dynamic IP address and seemed like it installed (I have checked and there is a internet connection present somewhere!!) The current wirreless card which worked with my previous router just will not find the new router at all....I bought a new wireless card in anticipation of this and tried installing the brand new one.... This installed but when I try to scan for the network it just keeps scanning the channels and cant find anything...yet when I looked through the pages on the wireless card control panel the connection was present on opne of the other pages... sheesh!! so what have I done wrong...I even connected back to the original connection and jotted down all the IP/Gateway/DNS servers and input them manually but still cant sync it up.... anyone any thoughts..... One thing is I know I havent been asked for my telewest user name and password anywhere during this set up..but cannot find anywhere where you would input them? |
