Re: Voip dd-wrt +wrt54
yea post it, i want to get into the whole voip thing but the technology side of it is less than clear. if its doable as a real life alternative i'll be changing my wrt54g for the voip/adsl/wireless router version.

If Incog gave a prize for most cryptic/technobabble thread title, this would be a serious contender :)

Re: Voip dd-wrt +wrt54
You plug a spare port of your WRT56G into the WAN/Internet port of your VOIP device. It does the rest?
I have a vonage linksys device, the only other thing I had to do was enable remote management (as I am accessing it from my WRT and it is hooked into the WAN port (so effectivly remote). Once that was done off it went. Also set up QoS to prioritse any traffic from that port. |

Re: Voip dd-wrt +wrt54
harman cheers
good point bout the access being remote. U set the Qos from within windows or the config page of the router? So do u pay for line rental at all? The phones u have hooked up to are DECT? Those i have are plus combined digital ans machine. how about line quality, strength both to land and mobile? Do u know if distance from the exchange or size of bandwidth affect it in any way? dwabbit, yep my router is the v1.1 with Sept 05 firmware just installed so please keep posting. cheers all, u see i can do plain english ;) |
Re: Voip dd-wrt +wrt54
QoS from the config page. I pay for line rental but a different number is on that line for a different purpose (two businesses at one location).
I have it hooked up to a BT Featureline featurephone and it is fab, callers from the US come through with text + number caller display, the red light comes on for voicemail etc. It is on a Demon line upgraded to 2Mb, works great. I can see the phone exchange from the office, probably makes it about 1/2 a mile as the crow flies, don't know about cable length though. I now have 3 of these blue linksys jobbies sitting in the corner plugged into the BT socket and structured cable. Looks well wired. I need to take a picture of my handywork. |
