Digital Filter ?

Im looking at my new 250 and just noticed the engineer has placed a little silver bolt on the end of my co-axial cable which then connects to the modem.

It says Technetix FLD5W Digital Signal Conditioning Filter

Never had this before on my old Ammy 100... it sounds like it has a purpose but can someone tell me if it actually does anything apart from look like a bit of steel.
