Error and free upgrade?

I dont know if this belongs in the 10mb discussion thread.

I was online last night about 2 or 3am. I suffered a 30 second disconnect (as usual  ) and then when it reconnected my download went from 360kb/sec to 2800kb/sec.

At first i thought it was .. what's the word... "buffered" data from the download software (sometimes resuming gives you silly speeds) but then it levelled out at around 1.2 megabytes per second. My upload speed went up from 20kb/sec to 60kb/sec!

I dunno what's happened. It seems live I've been given an upgrade on the speed, but I've not asked for it... (and I wont pay for it!). The ntlworld.com site says 10mb is "coming soon"... have they put me as a test account by accident or did they upgrade all 3mb customers last night or what?

Any ideas?

thanks

I had a quick scan there wasn't anything immediately obvious. I dont know if it's 10mb a sec that I've got now so I didnt know (as stated) if the 10mb thread was the one to post in.

Since I've not asked for an upgrade and since according to the NTL website it's not out yet, I asked if it was an error.

Now if you can't help and merely want to increase your post count, go and do it in some other thread.

You've been here for a day and 2 posts including the one I'm replying to, so you are in no position to act like you are.

is that Weyoun as in DS9?

anyway, the answer to your question is that it seems NTL have started the 'automatic' upgrades earlier than the December 5th originally announced - if you are on 3Mb already, there is no extra cost - just enjoy the increased speed :)

Excellent - so this isn't a test... this is a permanent increase for no more than the £37.99 a month I'm paying for 3mb?

Heh i can live with that \o/

thanks!

I wasn't sure if it was an upgrade was a mistake or what :)

Thanks for the help!!

...and to save you reading the rest of the forum - expect the price to go DOWN to £34.99 'early next year'. And Broadband Plus is now free.

heh thanks. As it turns out, we got a flyer through the door this morning (but I do very early shifits sometimes - I left the house at 5am) and my housemate showed it to me.

I will post int he speed statistics thread, but I may as well say here, the fastest sustained download speed I got was 1,200 kb/sec and I'm uploading at around 60kb/sec.

I must say I'm very pleased with NTL (and that's a rare and special gift for an NTL customer :D ) regarding their upgrades. I was expecting it to be £49.99 like the 1mb serivce was, then 1.5 then 3mb... I'm quite happy to pay £35 for 10mbps.

I suppose it's said somewhere but may as well ask here: how closesly is the 75gb download limit watched, do we know?

I know the 1gb/day (or 30gb a month) wasn't watched closely. I was browsing the nthell forums when they um... "altered" the T&C to include it and that must be close to 2 or 3 years ago and I know people weren't happy. But I've been downloading (along with my housemate) about 2gb a day over the last few months. We should be ok with the 75gb a day limit but something in the back of my mind tells me they will be monitoring this pretty closely.

well to be honest i have had ntl for over 10 years worked for them for 3 years (98 - 01) and i have had broadband since it started and never had a problem, ok the odd outage but i have had never had 1 complaint, only thing that annoyed me was when my mother phoned up cos she didnt have the same shopping channel as my aunt, then ntl found i was not on the employee package and astarted charging me correct lol bloody mothers eh :D (and i came home tonigh from the pub after work and have 10meg)

being a former employee and custoemr i have never had such problems as i know many have, i am guessing the region where you are also dictates this

LOL.

It's pretty safe to say that the 75GB per month will not be closely watched until later in 2006.
