Ethernet cable Outside
 

Just moved house and took my network with me. Now another PC is directly under my room but to take it downstairs is a bit of a pain.

Could i drop it out the window in my room to the other room below without any problems?

As long as the cable is well protected, I cant see any problems in doing this.
Just try to avoid placing it against any existing electricity wires near by and make sure when putting clips down to hold the cable in place, it does not put too much pressure on the wire, which could damage the cable.

external CAT5E cable should be used if you want the run to go outside. The cable is made suitable for external use by sheathing it with Polyethylene. This can withstand the outside elements, being a tough material resistant to water, moisture, oil, UV and also aberration resistant.

For added security, trunking or conduit should be used.

Are you going to actually fit the cable or have open windows??? If you have a router you could try 2 of these http://www.homeplug.org/en/index.asp

Ideally, to keep the cable safe from the weather, it shoulf be placed inside plastic or metal conduit, from any big DIY place (B&Q,Homebase) or if not, buy the better sort of cable like the Belkin ethernet range, good, thick cable, it should last longer outdoors.
Seen good length packs in Staples, if there's a branch near you?

Totally agreed, never run standard cable outside as it will suffer problems and then you will have fun and games finding the source of the fault. Might be easier , better and cheaper in the long run to go wireless.

go with the homeplug if should be able to find a pair of 14 mbs for 50 quid saves all the hassle
