Connection Issues - Manchester
Hi,
I'm having real problems with my connection since Tuesday. - Which is when my area was specified as going for maintence 12am-6am. Since then I'm recieving really slow browsing speeds, time-outs and packet loss. On both PC and laptop and while gaming with my PS2 - lag and disconnects, if i can connect to start with. They all connect via my linksys wireless router, but I have tried directly connecting my PC and laptop and still get the same performance. I've phoned the indian call centre, he ran me through the usual restarts, and then informed me all about spyware, which of course i knew, but i was polite to let him tell me. I run a real-time spyware/virus scanner, and have ran all many of spyware detecters, spyblaster, ad-aware etc. all find nothing. He told me he'd checked the line to my set-top box and it was fine, signal levels were normal, and there has been no packetloss what-so-ever. The following shot show's one example of packetloss detected by Dan Elwell's speed test: http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/7...ketloss7lq.jpg I've reset the set-top box so many times now, and nothing. Here's a shot of bandwidth monitor: http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/195...nection6ag.jpg That graph is over a minute or so. The connection seems to be going at full whack for a second or two then drops right down, before going back up, giving me an average download rate of 11k!!! I don't fancy spending another half hour having someone explain to me about spyware and peer 2 peer networks. I'm in the manchester area (OL9) connected to the salford network (Manchester 1) Is there anybody else suffering like me? Anybody have any suggestions for getting it checked out? The support line, won't accept it as a problem. Thanks! Craig |

Re: Connection Issues - Manchester
My connection has been like a yo yo, it went off all together yesterday.
and the nice chap at the indian call centre said it wasnt a network problem. to which i replied "well thats strange because everybody in the area has lost theres" he told me to reboot the stb  at which point i said, shall i go and do the whole streets then. He insisted it was only me, i give up :td: |
Re: Connection Issues - Manchester
Yup, i have been getting that too.

Re: Connection Issues - Manchester
I'm using Broadband Medic and talking to a technician online now, or at least I was, he asked me to do a trace route, i sent him the results, and he hasn't said anything back for 20minutes and now it's just closed saying:
Thank you for using NTL Support. EDIT: Ok, after it closed I viewed the report, and it said he'd sent me a message asking me to connect directly to the modem, but i never got it, obvisouly the packet-loss, I tried again, same thing, exchange a few messages, then nothing, then it closes. Again the report show's he sent me a tracert to my location with no problems. My tracert to ntl.com fails after this hop: win-dc-a-v902.inet.ntl.com [62.253.187.222] on his tracert to me, all the addresses have .private. before the ntl, so I guess a problem on that part of the network for me, wouldn't be in the route he took. Would changing my dns or using a proxy take me away from that server, so i can troubleshoot from there? |

Re: Connection Issues - Manchester
What exactly was the reason for that long test post ? - esp as this thread is about Manchester, not Leicester.

Any other topic and it would have been merged somewhere else or converted into a new topic. Or failing that if it was a Billing Issue slating NTL there would have been offers of help to escalate it to NTLs contacts flooding in. Instead of help being offered the first intervention is to ignore the OP problem and others with the same and single out Chrysalis long post. :erm:  Anyhows back on topic, have you guys called Tech Support and reported these issues, I know it probably will not get you any further but maybe worth a shot. :) |

Re: Connection Issues - Manchester
I'm in manchester south, and recently i've been losing connection on and off for days.
Usually its early evening, but its been getting more frequent and at different times. I rang CS and a nice tech tested the connection, and he said it was ok. Sure enough a few moments, it was, then it went erratic again. In fact Saturday last week, the 3meg was running at about 600k for about 2 hours. I put it down to the upcoming 10meg work that will obviously be going on. I just hope it improves before then. :( |
Re: Connection Issues - Manchester
has manchester not been upgraded yet then?

Re: Connection Issues - Manchester
I think the most of us here, are on the set-top boxes, there are people on CM that have 10mb, but the sTB's haven't had the config rolled out. We had upgrade work on tuesday, which is when my problem started.

I rang CS, [as did everyone else i bet :)] same old "no you cant have it", "doesnt exist", "are you on drugs" "by about 2006", conversation, and they put me through to retentions. They said i can't have it, its not available to Manchester, and i'm on the list to upgrade when its available. :( I was hoping thats what all these disconnections and occasional poor browsing was about. ;) |
