Telewest TV in 2 Rooms
Afternoon all,
have been interested reading about the best way to go about getting telewest in multiple rooms without an addition STB & associated monthly charges.:Yikes: Correct me if i'm wrong but i've been told that telewest won't put a cable splitter and route the 2nd cable to the desired location, they'll only install a new connection. I don't mind having the same channel being displayed on both TV's as i've not found out how to be in 2 locations at the same time yet ;) I've looked at video senders that say they are suitable for cable & NTL but can you use the telewest remote successfully?? colleagues of mine think not??? can anyone share any advice/experiences?? Thanks Sparky:angel: |

Let's address the remote control issue first. Some STBs use the fairly common IR (RC5) signal. Many use a less common, and more troublesome to transmit through repeaters) IrDA. Any remote sender uint needs to be compatible with your type of remote signaller. See http://www.redremote.co.uk/ Getting the TV signal to another room from your existing STB is the easy part. The most basic is to run a standard co-axial cable aerial from the STGB RF out (aerial out) to the next room and plug it to your other TV. Youare stuck with the channel being transmitted by the STB, on both TV in the main room and next door, unless you wander back the the STB with your remote, or use a remote control extender as above. The more complex method is the use of video senders. These generally plug into the scart output of the STB, and send the TV signal wirelessly to the next room. Remote control is also handled wirelessly. It's the remote bit that generally is the incompatibility issue. Have a look at Digisender A cable splitter won't help you, as unless you get a second STB (from Telewest) you'd have nothing to decode the signals onto the second TV. |

Re: Telewest TV in 2 Rooms
Hi all
I'm new to the site, and picked up on this thread, which was exactly what I was going to ask. My box is made by scientific Atlanta, and is called EXPLORER 4200DVB. On the back of my box, the only socket available (All the rest are hooked up to my surround sound etc) is what looks like a coaxial and is titled TO TV. I am right in assuming I can just plug in a coaxial lead up through my ceiling and into my bedroom, so I can watch TV upstairs? Also, any advice on video senders/digi senders would be appreciated. Thanks all. |

Yep you should be able to use that coaxial outlet and run it to another room. Of course you'll have to tune the TV to the outputted frequency from the STB. You will only be able to watch one STB transmission at a time i.e. same thing downstairs as upstairs. If you are using the coaxial, then all you need is a means of transmitting the remote signal when you are upstairs to the STB downstairs. A video sender would duplicate or replace the coaxial lead. Re: Telewest TV in 2 Rooms
Ive got the digisender Gold. Using with Telewest.
The picture and sound is pretty good. But the Remote Control sender is disappointing. It seems to work intermittantly for me and not reliable. You need to put your Telewest remote really close to the digisender box before it talks to the telewest box and even then the key presses dont always work (all just my experience of course, cant vouch for others). Shame as its quite expensive and the real reason I purchased this as it claims to be the only one telewest compatible. I have tried moving the digi eye around diff postions and tested with receiver in same room (so its not a distance issue) and still have same results. |
