Frequent disconnections in the Middlesbrough area

Hello,

For the last week or so I have been experiencing frequent disconnections from the internet. The speed is fine but it disconnects and wont reconnect until I reboot the modem.

Not sure what is happening but Im beginning to get sick of it. NTL have given me an almost flawless service for the past 4 years and have recently taken a turn for the worst. There are no reports of maintenance in the area so I dont know what is wrong.

Im going to ring CS tomorrow and see if I can resolve the issue but in the meantime can anyone else verify the same problem?

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

I've been getting the same since 17th Nov. (N.I)
It happens more frequently when the connection is being used to it's full
potential (Usenet) but also when it's just idling.
A quick check shows 13 disconnects/reboots since Thursday night.
I'm putting it down to maintenance for now but it's getting to be a pain.:(

Hmm, it seems to have been OK for the last few hours. Ill see how it goes by tomorrow. If its OK then I wont bother ringing CS.

I am having the exact same problems here is Warwickshire. Its been happening since Friday Night and usually when I am downloading larger files.

A reboot of the modem fixes it eventually, but not always

Re: Frequent disconnections in the Middlesbrough area

I have rang up CS twice in the last 3 hours and spoke to 2 very polite people :). The first one was unable to help because I had rebooted the modem and the connection was working again, but said to call next time it stopped working, which I did just 10 minutes ago. The second person I spoke to did a diagnostic on the line and said everything was fine and that chances are it was my router causing the problem.
It seems to be working again now even without me rebooting the router or modem :) so Im not sure what the problem is. I could be in line for a new router if this carries on. :(

I, unlike some others, have to praise NTL for their support. This is the first time in 4 years I have ever called them up for anything and it turns out not even to be their problem, so Im not even going to count it as a call to CS!

Go NTL! :p:

I just hope I can get everything sorted out. Thanks for everyone elses support too. ;)

Glad you got it sorted Abyss.
I'm still getting frequent disconnects, the last one just before I typed this.:(
Phoned TS and the guy on the other end ran a few diagnostics and has booked
me an engineer for tomorrow.:)
I was sorely tempted to ask for the 10Mb while I was at it but I'm patient.:D

I was tempted to ask for 10Mbps too but I thought "Ill only get told to upgrade by the web page and have to pay £37.99 rather than £24.99 so I'll wait" :dozey:

If it helps, I was having a similar problem. Engineer arrived today and checked cable connections. The connection to the cable box on the wall was a little loose. Tightened it up and the connections been fine since.

Is this on the box outside on the side of the house?

No it was the connection inside the house. The cable connection to the white cable box. Needed tightening up with a spanner.

Ah right. It hasnt happened since the last call to CS so if it does happen again I will bear that in mind.

Re: Frequent disconnections in the Middlesbrough area

I'm pretty sure it's got something to do with all the upgrading of the network that is happening.

My 10Mb connection is fine until I put some load on it, e.g. FTP'ing or bittorrent, then it will start rebooting approx every five minutes.

I remember the same thing happening a year or so ago the last time they were upgrading the network/service speeds etc. Eventually it settled down.

Re: Frequent disconnections in the Middlesbrough area

I had the same as you bughead, only it also happened when a page
was slow to load.It only started to happen after my modem received the
new firmware (Ambit 120)
Had an engineer out this morning and he swapped it for the blue 250, so
hopefully all will be well from here on.:)
