Our local wi-fi provider

Pricing structure here.

Some of the options do look tempting - especially as the service is unlimited.

"2Mbps down/250kbps up, £19.99 a month".. NTL's no competition at the moment!

Should I gamble (especially as insillation is free for packages over £10) or should I stay safe with NTL? :)

Ahh, but that'd involve a BT phoneline - which is easier said than done (we don't have an existing BT socket so we'd be 'new', not 're-connection' - be damned if we're paying for that!). :)

Has there never been a BT line to the house? Most houses have had a line at some stage and even if there is no line there you still count as returning customer.

May be worth giving them a bell on 0800 800 150 and asking them to check your address out on their system.

A friend of mine managed to get a new line installed even though the last one hadn't been active for 18 years!

To the best of my knowledge, there probably has been a good few years in the past - but we've been here a few years now and there was never any sign of a BT socket.

Might ring them up and see what they say. The problem is that we'd then have problems keeping NTL DTV without the phoneline... :)
