Just signed up....
I've just signed up to NTL and have an installation date of next Tuesday.
I should be on the 10meg connection, but i have a couple of questions. Am i likely to actually get 10meg or is it like ADSL where you get what your line can support? How strictly is the 75g a month cap enforced? i normally use between 50-100g a month. is customer service really as bad as i'm lead to believe? and how unlucky will i have to be to have to call them often? is the connection reliable? thanks guys ;) and overall, good move or bad? |
Re: Just signed up....
my personal experience
I get the download speed i pay for CS isnt that bad ALL of the time ;) I call them on average once every 2 years |
Re: Just signed up....

It's not always good, in some cases it's awful, but like everything else, people are only vocal when things go wrong. It's certainly not as poor as some would have you believe. Quote:

Re: Just signed up....
have to say in the 2 years that I've had NTL I only had to call them out say 3x compared to BT what I used to have over a 2 year period I had to call them at least once a month....so generally the NTL is stable but if something goes wrong it goes wrong bigtime.

Re: Just signed up....
I read in yesterdays evening Standard that NTL and BT had worst customer service (based on a Poll I think) Looks like everyones just as bad as each other

Re: Just signed up....
First of all :welcome: to CF hope you enjoy your stay and find it as useful as many others have. To the Mods/Admin team that run CF. Now to your questions.
Ive had Broadband from NTL for nearly 3yrs now and I've had an engineer out only once. Ive had no problems setting DD up or anything. I guess I must be one of the fortunate ones. The only way you will find out for yourself is wait until its installed and use the service. Hope this help in calming your nerves :p: |
Re: Just signed up....
I dont think I have ever had a problem (that I can remember) with my broadband or SACM. Ive had a few over the years with STB's, but NTL have always rectified the fault one way or another in a reasonable amount of time in my opinion.

Seriously, it's not that bad, and I'm sure NTL have unlimited accounts all waiting for us at reasonable prices - otherwise they'd be shooting themselves in the foot. My only dalliance with CS was not a good one I have to say. Fellow told me I had too many things running in the background when my connection was erratic. I had a Win98 barebones system stripped down and hardly registering a pip on CPU usage. Turned out it was just a box fault down the road and as I was being fed this tripe by the CS bloke there was an NTL man outside having a bacon butty just before he was going to do the work. |
Re: Just signed up....
thanks guys.
one last thing, i use newshosting.com a fair bit (through nbpro). do they restrict traffic on usenet (newsgroups)? |

Absolutely pathetic.. YMMV I will wait until this 10 meg upgrade debacle sorts itself out as things, although not perfect, were very much better before that started. If after that the poor performance continues it may be time, once again, to jump ship as far as BB is concerned. Lately I am having minor issues with all my Ntl services and the £10.50/month phone line rental I am forced to pay in order to receive a DTV service - EVEN THOUGH I DON'T HAVE AN NTL PHONE LINE - winds me up real tight everytime I think about it. If there wasn't an issue with receiving Sky at my address I would be out of here like a shot. Rant over. |
