Getting rid of icon names
Hi all, if like me you hate the name tags under your desktop icons then you might like this tip I found, right click the icon / icons>rename>then press and hold the Alt key and type 0160, thats it.
Mods if this is in the wrong spot or has been done then you know what to do ;) TIA |
Re: Getting rid of icon names
don't forget to tell the nice people that for one icon its alt0160 to have multiple like that the 2nd has to be alt0160alt0160, the 3rd alt0160alt0160alt0160 and so on coz you cannot have 2 icons the same name.
alt0160 is a space so your naming them space, spacespace etc. |

Re: Getting rid of icon names
I can only do one icon with a singe Alt 0160
Did one, fine, just tried a 2nd, and get "Cannot rename Mozilla Firefox: A file with the name you specified already exists. Specify a different file name." which makes perfect sence, can't have two files with the same name in one folder, and your desktop is just a normal folder on your hard drive, like any other. Doing 2 x Alt0160 on the 2nd icon works, so I would have to do it 3 times on the 3rd and so on... |

Re: Getting rid of icon names
Actually, I get rid of the icon text a completely different way. I have Show Desktop Icons deselected, and put them all on autohiding toolbars instead. That way, I can have a _completely_ clean desktop, and also select not to show the text on the toolbars, as well.
And I don't have to change a single filename! ;-) |
Re: Getting rid of icon names
Actually, you can put in alt-whatever (a non-breaking space) as the first character, and use the spacebar to add subsequent ones... might be a bit quicker.
Also, if you're using Linux, you don't need to use this method as it accept filenames beginning with a normal space character -- same goes for OS X as far as I know. |
Re: Getting rid of icon names
I just done 2 icons..... My Computer and My Documents, adn I renamed them with just the space bar one space for each, and this does the trick. the alt 0160 does not work ik
