Wireless router recommendations?
Hi,
I've read the sticky post above regarding router recommendations and just wondered if anyone had an up to date view? I currently have a Netgear WGT624 and WGT311 wireless NIC - not sure if it's the NIC or the router but I get dropped internet connections all the time - have tried tech support numerous times but nothing seems to fix it. For example, the router (and modem) crash if I try to access the weather section on the BBC news website! I can also pretty much guarantee it will drop the net connection when I try to upload pictures to www.photobox.co.uk It's bloody frustrating as I need to tramp downstairs to reboot the router! So, I'm in the market for a new router - it doesn't need to have fancy features, I'm only operating a three pc network - want to share internet and perhaps some lan gaming - not too worried about getting 108mps, would trade for reliability - but range needs to be good. I live in a old building so walls are pretty thick. Any recommendations? Cheers |
Re: Wireless router recommendations?
Try changing the wireless channel bing used by the netgear. Might be local interference causing the droppages.

Re: Wireless router recommendations?
When you are uploading photos, I suspect they are rather large. You may wel be completely saturating the upload bandwidth. Have a look around the wirless setup to ensure the number of connections the router is making to the modem aren't excessive. If the roouter can't get all the messages out in a timely fashion things could be going pear shaped.

Latest firmware ?
I had similar problems and once updating it, it was fine. |
Re: Wireless router recommendations?
Yeah, have latest firmware - it did get a bit better after last upgrade - but still happening a fair bit (prob two dropped per night) and it's not used heavily.
How would I check number of connections to modem - is that likely to be on the router control panel? |
