Set up problems, HELP !!!!
I have an NTL Pace DI4001NC set top box linked to a Sony RDR-HXD710 DVD Recorder via a Scart lead into Line one, out of the DVD on line 3 into a Sony KV-28FX65U TV via scart input 2 (to use the S-video connect on the scart). I also have a splitter on the NTL line before the Pace box going into the DVD CO-AX in and then out to the TV to pick up the normal channels so I can record these while watching other cable channels. This system worked fine on my Philips DVDR-70 but since buying the Sony and trying to set it up, I cannot get any channels to come up on the DVD set up and it also tells me the signal strength is zero. Any ideas what I have done wrong. The Sony has a multitude of ways to set the scart leads in and out of the DVD and I have tried most of the set ups. I had hoped to set them all to S-Video. The cable channel works fine and DVD's play fine using and of the set ups I have tried.

I'm a little confused on aspects of your setup. I'd suggest you simplify things initially and then gradually add stuff back in so you establish where problems are actually occuring. I'm not familiar specifically with the PACE DI4001 STB. You refer to s-video as a connection. Ideally in the STB video settings, assuming you are using full pin SCART cables, not S-Video cables, set the output to RGB, not composite. Ignore the RF cables from the splitter that you have. Disconnect them all so that the only ntl network facing connection is the screw end cable into the STB. Using Scart leads connections should now be: STB out #1 > TV in #1 STB out #2 > DVD Recorder in #1 DVD Recorder out #2 > TV in #2 |
Re: Set up problems, HELP !!!!
Thanks for the post Rob. I finally got some joy by connecting the SCART from the STB to the TV AV1, another SCART from the STB to the DVD Line 3 then a SCART from the DVD Line 1 to the TV AV2, retaining the splitter going to the STB and the DVD and out of the DVD to the TV. I can now record from the TV but still does not show any channels on the DVD, is this normal with cable reception?

Re: Set up problems, HELP !!!!
Your DVD player can only receive the specific channel being transmitted from the STB, ie. BBC1, Sky1, etc. You can't change the STB channel being transmitted by changing the DVD recorder channel received. You can only change the transmitted channel by changing on the STB itself.
Some advanced recorders have an ability to plug in a magic eye type device that will enable them to effectively transmit a remote contorl type signal to the STB, telling it to change channels. Such magic eyes often involve a wire lead, plugged intot he DVD recorder with a sticky "lens" placed over the receiving eye on the STB. Check the Scart leads you are using, some will pass signals only in one direction. If you can't receive the STB signal direct on the STB using the DVD's AV channle set to the appropriate Scart socket, the scart lead you have may be the worng direction / way round. |
