Re: NTL looks at Premiership rights
it is great news but i would like my red button to work 1st and get vod sorted before ntl (cable uk ) get there fingers in the football pie

Re: NTL looks at Premiership rights
i think this is good news, i think they should 'group' matches to be televised, so say the rights will go to NTL, they show the vast majority of matches for the price they pay, others shown on sky, as sky pay for them and then some on FTA channels such as the BBC. its what he EC want apparently and i agree with the idea, aslong as some matches are accesable to all, the problem is if NTL earn the rights to the lot or vast majority then they have a limited viewership, which in my view is bad for football, so there has to be some leeway.

Re: NTL looks at Premiership rights
Like the price quoted £10 a month, just depending on the amount of games they will offer.

Re: NTL looks at Premiership rights
bet I wont be able to get it tho, so it will go from been able to watch on sky sports 1 to some ntl channel that they dont put on the ntl analogue.
Its the uk's only cable company not the uk's dominent cable company or is there a 2nd I dont know about? |
Re: NTL looks at Premiership rights
havent the EC insisted that any one company can only have rights to 50% of the live games it could be a killer for sky if they lose it
which they (for that exact reason) wont |

On the other hand, even if the EC don't interfere, apparently the new bidding system will make it easier for other companies to win one of the 4 packages (remember that Sky won all 4 packages, it wasn't one pack) and therefore i think Sky would have to bid A HELLUVA LOT to win all 4 anyway as with NTL and Setanta bidding the cost of winning all 4 will almost definitely cost Sky more, resulting no doubt in even higher prices for Sky customers unless Sky would be prepared to swallow the loss of profit. Lets not forget, that the BBC, ITV, C4 and Five have already dislayed muted interest too although everyone on this forum including me probably think they are kidding themselves. I can't wait for the bidding to start personally, it's exciting in itself, forget the footy! |

NTL and ITV Join Forces In Move To Break Sky's Grip On Premiership
http://today.reuters.co.uk/investing...IGEST-1210.xml
NTL AND ITV JOIN FORCES IN MOVE TO BREAK SKY'S GRIP ON PREMIERSHIP ITV (ITV.L: Quote, Profile, Research) and NTL (NTLI.O: Quote, Profile, Research) have announced that they are to join forces in their bid for the next round of rights to show Premier League TV, and break BSkyB's (BSY.L: Quote, Profile, Research) exclusive grip to show the big matches. They are thought to be willing to spend around 170 million pounds a year for half the games that are available in the next auction, for the 2007 to 2010 seasons. A letter outlining their interest has been sent to the chairmen of the league's 20 constituent clubs |
