Linksys Instant Wireless USB - HUGE PROBLEMS!
Hi
I need your help! I have just bought two Linksys Instant Wireless USB Adapters to go with my Linksys Wireless-g router although im having huge problems with getting them to sync with the router, the machines I have upstairs are both running windows XP. They both pick up the router and talk to it. But the Linksys program seems to conflict with the Windows Wireless program. When you disable the Linksys program after the PC loads and select boot with Windows Wireless, then if you wait then the Windows wireless lets you connect to the internet. But as soon as you re-boot then the you have to go through the whole thing again, also it does not seem very stable. Any ideas or advice.....please |
Re: Linksys Instant Wireless USB - HUGE PROBLEMS!
Two options to suggest - try on just the one PC first and see what happens before you trash the other one too :disturbd:
Uninstall the Linksys software, reboot the PC without the wireless connected, then clean out any windoze wirless settings, and any remnants of USB drivers. Use safe nmode if need be. Reboot again. Now strictly follow the Linksys manuals for installation, in the sequence they tell you whether this is plugin the USB first before running CD, or vice versa. Use only the Linksys programs to setup the network, not the M$ options. Alternatively, once you've wiped the lot, explore the linksys CD and copy only hte USB drivers to your HD. When you now add the USB connection, if drivers are required, point the installer at the HD copies, don't use the linksys installer so you don't get all the other addons. Now use the windoze wireless setup. |
Re: Linksys Instant Wireless USB - HUGE PROBLEMS!
I would say (dont know the linksys stuff) but from experience I find the WZCSVC (wireless zero config) to be more stable and useful then any of the "utilities" of the card makers.
so I would just do a driver only install when you've de-installed the linksys stuff and then reboot, then start wzcsvc up and install the card (let it look for the drivers on the linksys cd as there should be a folder drivers there) |

Re: Linksys Instant Wireless USB - HUGE PROBLEMS!
have you tried any of those ideas cuz those are the only 2 possible :)
what you might be able to do is change a channel on the router of yours |
Re: Linksys Instant Wireless USB - HUGE PROBLEMS!
Hi
Changed the channel from 11 to 12. And it worked a bit better. Ive tried both your ideas, and on the PC with both the Linksys software and Windows then I can get the PC to connect by turning off the linksys program and telling it to use windows. That works its a hassle but it works. The next PC i un-installed everything and just used the drivers and set it to work only with windows. The problem with this is you need to physically assign the IP address if you dont then when its searchs with the windows program it finds nothing. When you pyhsically assign the IP address then it finds the linksys router and sometimes works and sometimes does not. Any ideas???? Im bafffled! |
