Google English

Basically,
my mate pinged www.google.co.uk and the IP he got links to Google, but the logo displays as Google ENGLISH. We cannot replicate it except by pinging www.google.co.uk. The logo is the same file however written in plain text is the word English. Just having a Stella fuelled argument about it! Please solve.

Are these IP's acually Google or some phising site

Re: Google English

The IP I get is 216.239.59.99 and, again, it goes to Google English.

No, wouldn't be a phishing site if that's the IP you get from pinging www.google.co.uk. I notice, however, that there's an extra link, Local, which takes you to a North American view in Google Maps, and the Search the web/pages from the UK radio buttons are missing. At a guess, it's actually a North American Google page for a region where languages other than English are spoken: I think the word English refers to the language rather than the country.

david is talking about pinging that address, then directing your browser to the resultant IP, Gaz, not just clicking the link! ;-)

Re: Google English

Google will have many servers to serve the millions of search hits it must get every second, then add in the work of the spidering bots. Google will just have a large round-robin IP addressing scheme, so almost no 2 people will get the same IP within any given time, they all give the same site and results tho as theyll all be kept up to date with each other.
