MSN Messenger renamed

Now the first question that probably will rise to your mind is why?!?!:

To make a very long story short, Microsoft is re-branding its major sections. On one side you will have the MSN Section, and the other hand you will have the live section, consisting out of office live, mail (previously hotmail) and Windows Live Messenger.

And your next question will probably be what ?!?:

Apart from the name change the butterfly will retire, and the new client is going to be even more integrated with mail, search, media player and office. The user interface is also getting a make-over and is going to be much like the new mail look.

wonder if they'll ever develop further than MSN Messenger 4.0.1 for mac...

nothing branded "windows" is being installed on this mac, that's for sure!!

Well I hope they dont add anymore adverts and junk. I need a simple chat system, not some multi gizmo thing.
Will be interesting to see how the new branding takes off.

On Windows, I use Miranda. Doesn't feel as good but it does have a huge number of powerful plugins, which sweeten the deal.

Adium is a Mac front-end to the Gaim engine. Gaim itself aimed at Linux, but also has a Windows version available.

Version 2.0, due out at the end of this month, should have voice/video support...

the more integrated is bad. I hate how m$ tie their apps in with each other. eg. Last time I upgraded msn messenger, I had to close maxthon, 3 IE windows and outlook so it could shutdown. Then it said something was still using it so I needed a reboot :(

Why not just use Google Talk? Haven't seen any ads on there! Used it last month to make free 'calls' from France to home while training :)
