ntl business broadband does anyone have it?
 

does anyone have the ntl business cable package if yes I would be interested in some traceroutes to see if they get better routing to bypass congested peering points and cheap transit's. Most notably cogent and the congested peering points I have seen.

Also I already know ntl allow static ip's on the business package, but do they also still enforce their proxy server's on the service I think I remember them doing so but just want it confirming as their sales lady doesnt know anything about the technical aspect of the service.

Finally on the ubr do business customer's share the same downstream and upstream as residental users or they are allocated their own stream?

I dont know if youd notice much/any difference to be honest as the speeds are limited to 750k and 1.5MBit and are slightly more expensive.

Have you also asked about install lead times? They quoted me 45 days from order to install, I went elsewhere, Demon Home Office. Demon have upgraded this to the 2Mb when the exchange updated FOC, static IP, no proxys, 24/7/365 CS. One year contract (or less?)

Zeph the 1.5mbit is fine for my needs. SMharman I cant goto demon unless I pay bt £200 for a phoneline which is unlikely.

hi, i have the 1.5mb single user cable modem service, works much quicker than the home 3mb service i had which is good, i also have 5 static ips on this service which is good as well. my trace goes through linx and yours appears not to, linx has congestion so it looks like either the business do indeed get good routing or its because your area has that route anyway.

No they don't networks rarely work like that as it's a bodge, and expensive on routers' processing and memory.

Yes they do share and no they aren't allocated their own.

Incidentally no need for a ' in front of the s unless you're contracting something or writing to indicate posession, for pluralisation just pop the s behind the word.

No linx here either, and my pings match almost hop for hop, so I wouldnt say business customers have better routing.

Note this is an old thread and cogent isnt congested anymore but thanks for the replies. Ignition so if say a ubr was congested business and residental customers get equal share of the pot?
