Help! 1000s of Mailer Daemon emails
I'm getting hundreds of emails every minute all from Mailer-Daemon@ etc with subject lines about not being able to deliver an email I sent. I'm trying to delete them but with the current email problems on ntl it's difficult.
Anyone else getting this? Should I just leave them until my mailbox fills up and then they will start getting rejected? |
Re: Help! 1000s of Mailer Daemon emails
have you run full anti virus/ spyware scans on your pc? Sounds like your pc is being used as a spambot...

Re: Help! 1000s of Mailer Daemon emails
I've been getting mail bounced back by NTL as undeliverable due to some auto filtering thingie that is blocking things....

As Chris says do a virus, spyware etc sweep of your PC as it looks like it has been compromised.

I would still check for pwnage as a precaution though... well, I check mine every night. |
Re: Help! 1000s of Mailer Daemon emails
Do you get much spam?
Some spammers rotate their victims addresses as the forged source address, so when it's your turn, you get buried in bounces! This is the main reason that spam bouncing is a busted flush, and NOBODY should use the bounce option on any mail filtering program, since the source address is invariably forged. |
Re: Help! 1000s of Mailer Daemon emails
Thanks for the replies everyone.
I carried out a full scan (EZ Armour anti-virus) and lavasoft ad-aware. System is clean. Now I've had a chance to look properly I've found out that the emails weren't coming directly to my ntl email address. I have a domain name with email forwarding and all these emails were addressed to support@MyDomainName.com. These were the ones being forwarded to ntl. There were thousands of them (probably my fault that ntl's email went down!) but I have redirected them to an old Excite.com I hardly ever use. The good news is I haven't had any today so hopefully the problem has gone away. |
