Flatscreen TV

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive flat screen with a TV capability, for someone in a very small flat ?

Ideally, the screen should have TV and SCART input, but be easily switchable from that to direct input from a PC. Is this possible, for a budget of < £250 say ?

Thanks in advance.

Toshiba have small flatscreen TVs with dual SCART connectors in your price range.

Your going to struggle to get one in under £250 but I think you'll get close, for your money you'll get a 17" model.

However you could get a 19" computer only tft model for £175 and get a £45 tv in card for your pc. £220 in all and will give you more screen space for your money with the benefit of a hard drive recorder pause tv capability.

PC World were doing a Samsung (?) 19" LCD TV (with Scart) for £249. Not sure if the deal is still on.

Many thanks for all the fast responses.

I was hoping one or more of you might have tried one of these & been able to let me know how good or otherwise these are. The difficulty I have had is in finding which TFTs are for PCs only so do not have SCART and which TVs are Scart only so do not have ..... !!!!, but I have searched & found devices from Tosh, Samsung, LG, Phillips, Sanyo (I think) and Bush. The Bush is only 15" but comes in at £189 on Amazon.

The PC card sounds a good idea, but this is for a (very) non - technical person who can just about manage an NTL remote but is able to surf the net reasonably well. The 17" ARIA is only £125 ex VAT - these guys have certainly goe down in price since I last looked !

Thanks for your input - when and if I prise some money out of him, I will let you know what we installed.

Thanks
Jack

The easiest way to see which ones are TV only or PC only is in the name. LCD TV will usually be scarted and TFT monitors will normally be PC only

No, not yet - these things take time and a lot of persuasion.

At the moment, he (the person I am trying to help on this) has an old TV on a standard aerial with an awful picture which no amount of re-tuning will correct. He has a new (small) TV in the bedroom which has an excellent picture, presumably from the same aerial. I don't want to spend £250 on a flashy new TV and still have the same picture problem so will need to check that out next time I am there. There is an NTL line (TV and phone, I think) into the flat, presumably from the previous occupant which is not used at present. The current phone is on BT, so I guess ADSL is also feasible.

He would like a PC and a printer, has attended some classes in basic operation and wants to be connected to the internet.

Any and all advice welcome - I will post again in 1-2 weeks if I make any progress.

Thanks
Jack

I would look around in the smaller electrical suppliers in and around your area. A year ago my TV went bang, and I needed a replacement, I wanted to get a LCD.

I went to a local company called Tower I had a budget of £700, I found a Panasonic 22-in LCD (Model TX-22LT3) that was in a sale, because they where ring out a newer model (The only difference was that the border around the screen would be black, rather than silver. the price before the sale was £1,500, I paid £800, but getting it for £700 cheaper I thought whatthe hell.

So shop around first.

Also if its a long term TV look at getting one thats HD ready (HDMI &/or DV connectors)
