transatlantic links
As you are probably aware 98% of websites you visit , (including the server on which this site is hosted) are based in the USA
How do telewest and ntl and bt get good connections over the atlabtic ocean? With all the web traffic being sent to the USA, where are all the pipes and how does a cable isp like tw gain access to them? does tw link up with bt and the phonelines? Of course, that means uk hosted servers are all the faster. my site, http://andymt.co.uk is hosted in the UK. download some of the files off it and you will get your maximum speed! |
Re: transatlantic links
Just sent you an e-mail about your site wording (sorry it's the scrutineer former job part coming out). :tu: ;)

Re: transatlantic links
ntl have peering arrangement's with various isp's for that kind of traffic level3,abovenet and cogent are the 3 big ones they use for us transit but there are more. Also because they use proxies ntl will also have alot of requests just been kept internally on their network for cached pages. Even traffic within the uk will most likely involve other isp's, about the only few cases your traffic wont leave ntl (or telewest) is if the site itself is hosted on their network or cached. All non http traffic wont be cached.

Re: transatlantic links
Just for info... that MP3 that you've got hosted on your site under the title 'This is a recording of a guy playing Beethoven's 5th on an electric guitar-with an orchestral accompaniment!' is actually Paul Gilbert (of Mr Big and Racer X fame).
